FISH WOMAN
Fish woman is an intimate portrait of Maëlis Bekkouche, a French-Algerian multidisciplinary artist who incorporates fish skins into her unique creations with her body as the canvas. By recycling and breathing a new life into the discarded and often unvalued skins of fish, Maëlis embraces the properties of the fish and as such not only celebrates the wondrous creatures but reveals the mysterious self.
Her narrated text delivers a morphic experience, the sensuality of skin on skin, that merges with the tides and permeates her sense of being. The film captures the hybrid creature and delves into the essence of one's identity both in society but also in relation to our environment and the bodies of water that surround us.
